Geared For The Outdoors Podcast: Backcountry First Aid with Jimmy Gruenewald
Author: Will Cooper
Let's face it. Just like me, there have been many of you out there that think you can get by in a medical emergency with the $30 First Aid Kit you just purchased at your local outdoor retailer. What many don't realize is that most of these kits don't come with the necessary items to keep you alive. Advil and gauze won't help when your broadhead falls out of your quiver, slices a major artery, and blood is going everywhere.
This is where Jimmy Gruenewald, a former Special Operations Physician Assistant and CEO of Orion Medical Consulting stepped up. His unique experience and understanding of the austere environment provide invaluable insight to medical products and training.
For over 10 years, Jimmy served active duty in the US Army in the 82nd Airborne Division with the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment and the Special Operations community with 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne). A combat veteran with six combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, Jimmy utilizes his experiences and skill set to help educate backcountry hunters and outdoor adventurers.
Both Pnuma Outdoors and Jimmy have seen a void in the industry for backcountry first aid. That's why we brought Jimmy on board to sit down and talk with us for an episode of the Geared For The Outdoors Podcast!
If you are thinking about heading out west for your first public land hunt, or are heading out for your 15th year, take a listen to this podcast to learn more about Backcountry First Aid. It will help give you and your family peace of mind!
