Strong all-around western big game hunting pant I

I’m a gear tester and brand ambassador for Pnuma. They sent me a pair of the pursuit pants to try out.

So far I’ve used them on a backcountry mule deer scouting trip (3.5 mile backpack, with 3,500 feet of elevation gain, with temps in the 70s). I’ve also used them on a 25 mile round trip ascent of the tallest peak in Utah.

I would put these pants up against KUIU’s attack pants (of which I own three pairs). The pursuit pants seem tougher than the attack pants, and I like their fit better (a bit less baggy than Kuiu). However, the attack pants are likely lighter in case you are ounce counting.

The pockets seem durable and well-placed. The zippers on the though and rear pockets lessen the chance of losing important items like wallets, keys, knife, Garmin Mini InReach, fire starters, etc. The pants are made of sturdy material that lessens the effects of stickers rubbing on trees wild walking. They breath adequately. The thigh vents help shed heat.

I plan to use them for mid-season to late season hunts (layering merino wool under them in late season hunts with temps below 40 degrees). I’ll likely use them on a backcountry Utah mule deer and elk hunt this fall, a cold moose hunt in Alberta, a wild hog hunt in California, and a coues deer hunt in New Mexico.

My only suggested improvement so far would be to add a loop of lightweight cord to the zippers so that you can more easily open and close them while wearing gloves.

Comfortable pants. Nice material fits good for a big guy. Only complaint is the pockets where you would normally carry a pocket knife with the clip. I notice my knife was starting to work up and out of the pocket. The first time. I pushed it back down then a few hours later noticed my bench made bugout 535 was missing. So beware on that guys. It turned out to be a sad hunt thinking about losing a 200 dollar knife. I know wth was I thinking carry it but to be honest the last 3 years with any knifes I carried I never had one come out of my kuiu attack or pro pants

So impressed, very durable, and outperformed my expectations

Deciding on which hunting clothing to go with is tough since fit is such a personal thing and it’s a pretty big investment. That said, I decided to go for some pieces from Pnuma over some of the other big names, mostly based on videos from ElkShape and many late nights piloting over reviews.

I couldn’t be more impressed with the Alpha Vertex Jacket and Alpha Vertex Pants from Pnuma.

I did get more use out of the pants than the jacket, but the jacket was comfortable and warm when I used it. At 30 degrees I was warm hiking. Otherwise, spring bear hunt was warm enough to not need to pull it out.

I wore the Vertex pants every day on trails and bushwhacking through swamps and deadfall.

The bear I shot was in a ton of deadfall and there were many times they snagged on branches of fallen trees. Most the time I tried to untangle myself safely and without pulling at the pants, but there were definitely times where I just had to pull through to snap branches off. I swore I would have tears in the legs, but after getting home, no tears, snags, wholes or otherwise. I was so impressed.

Knee pads came in clutch for both the shot and for the field dressing of the bear. You couldn’t definitely use a glassing pad, but really nice to just have them there already and I didn’t notice them on the hike.

I typically would wear 30” inseam, but the lowest was 32” for the size I needed. This ended up working well as I was able to tuck the pants into my boots.

The pocket configuration for the front pockets is kinda weird and anything you put in them does lay on your thighs. I just don’t really use them for anything big.

I am pretty impressed. Very confident in the material and toughness.
